/Kentucky News Articles/ - FREMONT, NE, August 06, 2008 -- Midland Lutheran College has been inspiring students to "learn and lead in the world with purpose" for 125 years. To celebrate this significant anniversary, Midland will introduce six online degree and certification programs into its already diverse mix of academic offerings. In doing so, Midland will open the door for a wider variety of students to gain from its liberal arts curriculum and core values of faith, learning, quality, respect and stewardship.

One of the institution's new online ventures is the "Called to Teach" Secondary Teaching Certificate Program. The certification courses are delivered entirely online and enhanced by an experiential field-based component to advance each student's instructional expertise.

"Called to Teach" has been designed especially for working adults already possessing a bachelor's degree and desiring to earn a certificate in teaching at the secondary school level. Upon completing the online program, students will be eligible to apply for a Nebraska Teaching Certificate and instruct in a wide array of subjects, from physical education for kindergarten through 12th grade, to art, business, biology, chemistry, English, foreign languages, history, mathematics, natural science and social science for 7th through 12th grade.

Midland's online programs will make a Midland education far more attainable for students who may not be able to attend Midland in person. Indeed, any location with Internet access becomes a portal to a high-quality Midland Lutheran education, thus allowing individuals with full-time professional and familial responsibilities to pursue their educational goals. The flexibility and convenience online learning offers make this medium an asset for many traditional and nontraditional students.

Midland is a liberal arts institution committed to a holistic, comprehensive approach to knowledge and education. The school offers a wide variety of nearly 50 majors and pre-professional programs. Midland Lutheran College's six new online degree programs -- including the "Called to Teach" Secondary Teaching Certificate Program -- are means by which the school can serve students far beyond Fremont. Online education enables MLC to spread its mission of high-quality education and commitment to Lutheran values worldwide.

Taking online courses and completing an online program is beneficial to any adult from any location. Learn more today about the post baccalaureate certification in secondary education program at Midland Lutheran College.
